NUST Summer School,2023 (NSSCC)

The NUST Summer School on Climate Change kicked off its first summer school program on July 8th, 2023. Students from various universities participated in the summer camp. This five-day interactive session featured several keynote speakers and participants from diverse backgrounds, including academia, government, and other stakeholders. Some of the notable speakers included Dr. Adil Najam (President WWF International), Ali Hasnain Syed (Director C3A, NUST), Hania Imran (Founder Youth Climate Activist), Abeera Babar Mehmood ( Assistant Manager Sustainability, NUST), Zainab Zahid (Youth) and Nameer Urfi (Climate Change Analyst).

This year, the summer camp focused on themes related to climate change and communication, decarbonization, circularity, environmental sustainability and inclusivity. The sessions were not only intellectually stimulating but also extremely thought provoking. The summer camp began with an ice-breaking session, followed by various activities that engaged the participants in discussions, including debates, industry insights, and case studies over the course of five days.

The aim of the summer school was to raise awareness and empower the youth regarding the repercussions of climate change and how to combat them. The main objective was to emphasize the importance of climate justice and to highlight potential solutions for moving forward where Pakistan can play a positive role. The focus was on addressing these issues at the grassroots level and working toward changing the status quo, particularly by uplifting marginalized communities. This program showcases NUST’s commitment towards climate action that will allow Pakistan to be part of the solution for global climate justice.
