EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT (ESD) AT NUST

In the light of Higher Education Commission’s five-year plan “building communities”, it was needed to activate the faculty and students to undertake community service. Therefore, a 1 credit-hour course named “Community Service Course (CSL-01) was incorporated in the NUST Curricula as mandatory course for the Undergraduate students. For more details, please visit:

Aligned with the university’s strategic objective of becoming SDGs-engaged, NUST is now aiming to incorporate Education for Sustainable Development in Community Service Course as per the university best practices from across the globe.

Therefore, through the mandatory Community Service Course (CSL-01), NUST has now formalized and recognized the Education for Sustainable Development as a mandatory module in the CSL as per the strategic objective of the university to introduce students to basics of the Sustainable Development and inculcate a sense of ownership and responsibility as future leadership of the country. Other than the mandatory course, several other courses have been designed for UG, and PG levels which address the sustainability from different dimensions and have been included as a part of ESD curricula at NUST:

Another three-credit MS level course on “Topics in Sustainable Development" gives students an understanding of the key challenges and pathways to sustainable development and the economic development that is also socially inclusive and environmentally sustainable, is also being introduced by 2022.

Our materials are global in nature, based on science, taught by experts in their fields, accessible online, created in partnership with SDSN members and other organizations from around the world, and built to scale, having reached hundreds of thousands of learners around the world!

Other Sustainability Related Courses

We create and curate relevant, diverse content on the SDGs, make it available to a global audience, and establish partnerships to train and prepare both educators and practitioners, in this generation and the next, to achieve the SDGs.
